Excellence is a habit

It takes a deliberate and intentional effort to achieve excellence. When you see people that are at the top or excelling in their field, understand that it was not a journey that happened in a day. It may look so effortless to you but if you ask them, they’ll tell you it is a combination of recurrent input till it becomes a habit. Innate intelligence and brilliance may make you stand out initially, but you would soon be relegated if you don’t put in the effort. An average student that is consistent is likely to succeed when compared to a brilliant student that is flippant with his studies.

You have heard the saying “nothing good comes easy.” While some happenstance can occur, it is rarely the case to just be successful without putting in the work. Success has many friends and you are likely to see people flock around you more when you excel. It is up to you to be discerning enough to recognize the associations that will not hinder your progress. Ensure that you reevaluate your relationships when necessary. Part of progress is recognizing the relationships that may need to go.

The journey to being a successful person is not an easy one. But in life, you have to choose your hard. Would you rather languish in mediocrity and be a nuisance or put in the work and be extraordinary?

Another thing about success again is that people rarely notice when you’re planting the seeds. They only see when it has brought forth fruits. They then start to ask, “how did he get there?”

Not remembering that “the heights reached and kept by great men was not attained by a sudden flight. But they, while their companions slept, were toiling upwards in the night.”

No matter the stage of life you’re in…ensuring excellence at what you do will take you far in life. Be you a student or a working class person. Don’t take shortcuts…it usually doesn’t end well. Work hard and work smart by being strategic in your relationships. Little drops of water will eventually fill an ocean.

Excellence is a result of continuous positive habit forming….Are you imbibing good habits in your daily life? It is never too early to start.
