May we never lose sight of the important stuff

I joke around a lot. But I’m a very observant person. I look at older couples and I see the ones that have had a great marriage. By their actions and inactions. By their words both spoken and unspoken. I see the ones that have had probably a tumultuous relationship.

Talking with some patients also made me realise how deep some hurts run. Spouses punishing their better halves for sins long committed.

Nobody is promised a long life…but nothing beats living happily with fulfilment in advanced age.

We erroneously think that everyone is promised a long life. So we procrastinate. We keep saying…’I’ll do it tomorrow’ but tomorrow may never come. Live everyday like it might be your last…If you were to exit this life today…would you be happy with the life you’ve lived?

Introspection should be a daily thing. Absolutely no one is promised a long life. We pray for it…we plan for it…we hope for it…yet the harsh reality is that not everyone will get it. Live life every day in the best way possible every single day….for tomorrow may never come.

If you have a good relationship now, nurture it, take care of it and treat yourselves right. If your spouse offends you, and you say you’ve forgiven them…then forgive all the way. Don’t punish them when they’re helpless.

People also often say ‘You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone’
I’ve also heard the saying…’We never appreciate a good thing till we lose it’

Dear God….may this saying never apply to me. May I always appreciate all the good things I’ve been given. May I always hold my treasures in my hands and guard it closely to my heart.

May I always be able to tell the people that mean the world to me how much I appreciate them. May I never damage my good relationships all by myself.

May we have dependable people holding us up when we truly need it

So help me God. Amen
