Are you communicating effectively?

When people are asked the recipe to a good marriage, a lot mention communication. They fail to qualify it as “effective communication”. In communicating effectively, the message has to be sent in a way that the receiver understands and can process it. The receiver then responds so that the sender can get a feedback and know that the message is understood. Anything short of this is talking above each other’s head.

People also fail to realize that timing is important. You cannot want to express your feelings at a time when emotions are raging. The message will never be processed well. There is a time and place for everything. In relationships and even at work.

Apply emotional intelligence in your conversations and everything appears easy. Discard emotional intelligence and everything appears like obstacles in your path.
So I ask you today, friend, are you communicating or talking above each other’s heads? There’s a whole lot of difference between the two. While the former brings you closer, the latter creates a gulf between the two of you.

Communication is important but be sure that you’re speaking in a language the other party can hear. It requires patience, attention to details and emotional intelligence to communicate effectively.

P.S…there are some people that are highly irrational. No matter how hard you try, you cannot get across to them. They behave like they have coconut in their frontal lobe. Recognize such people and walk away before they autococonut your frontal lobe.
